At the Mechanical Engineering Campus of Leibniz Universität Hannover on 19 June 2024, everything will revolve around the most possible energy-efficient plastics processing. The Institute of Plastics and Circular Economy has chosen this topic as the main theme of its third colloquium.
Sustainability is gaining in importance
"We are all experiencing it, the plastics industry is in a state of upheaval. In addition to technical performance and price, the sustainability of products is becoming increasingly important. For this reason, we would like to focus on various approaches to improving energy efficiency in material and component production at the upcoming colloquium under the key topic of "Energy-efficient plastics processing". Concrete solutions will be presented in high-level presentations," says the statement from Hanover.
After the welcome and introduction by the managing director of the institute, Prof. Dr Hans-Josef Endres, Dr Michael Merwart from the transformation network neu/wagen will speak about the energy-efficient circular economy as the basis of the future automotive industry. Michael Weigelt, Managing Director of Tecpart, will then talk about energy-efficient plastic products as a contribution to climate protection.
Four presentations by plant manufacturers
Energy efficiency is also the focus of several contributions from the industry: Gerhard Scheel from Kraus Maffei Extrusion will report on energy efficiency in extrusion, Dr Philipp Kloke from Arburg on energy efficiency in injection moulding and Michael Eloo from Maag on energy-efficient underwater pelletising systems. The energy efficiency of the systems will also play an important role in the presentation by Hans Schneider from Zeppelin, a leading plant engineering company for handling high-quality bulk materials.
Felix Mehrens and Stefan Kerkenberg from IKK will then present innovative approaches to injection moulding, covering everything from cycle analysis to optimised mould cooling.
Energy-efficient plastics processing from the perspective of processors
In addition to associations, system manufacturers and suppliers of process technology and components, processors will also have their say at the third IKK colloquium. Dr Gerrit Huelder and Michael Wolf from Bosch will report on the product carbon footprint as a challenge for developers and processors. Ansgar Hoffmann from Hoffmann + Voss will then discuss potential savings in mechanical recycling and Ingo Hartmann from Röchling will talk about energy efficiency in the Röchling Industrial group of companies.
After the summary and conclusion by Prof Dr Hans-Josef Endres, participants will have the opportunity to take a tour of the IKK. The event is aimed in particular at industry representatives, starts on 19 June 2024 at 9:00 a.m., ends at 6:00 p.m. and is free of charge. The IKK has provided further information on the programme, venue, registration, travel and accommodation on its own colloquium website.
